Jon Mellen, age 78 of Boise, passed away on Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, at a Boise hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home.

Jon was born April 26, 1937, in Barstow, Calif., the son of Thomas and Norma Mellen. He was raised in Mountain Home and graduated from Mountain Home High School. He attended the University of Idaho. Jon served in the U.S. Army and also taught high school in Grand View, Idaho.

Jon moved to Seattle and Portland where he owned and operated a graphic arts supply company. He met his wife, Lana, in Portland, Ore., in 1976, and they were married in 1981.

Jon and Lana moved to Fairfield, Idaho, and owned the Hot Springs Ranch. In 1984, Jon sold his company and retired to pursue cattle ranching and farming full time.

In 1996, Jon and Lana moved to Paradise Valley, Ariz., where they lived for 17 years. Three years ago, they returned to Idaho. They made their home in Boise and have a cabin in the mountains near Anderson Ranch Reservoir.

The cabin was built on property homesteaded by Jon's grandfather. Many stories, memories and hours shaped the cabin and is where Jon felt most at home.

Jon was an avid hunter, outdoorsman and enjoyed sharing his passion with his family and friends. Activities included fishing, hunting, rafting, skiing, snowmobiling, tennis and golf. Jon loved to travel the world and experience the diversity of all cultures.

Jon is survived by his wife, Lana Mellen of Boise; his sons, Jon and his wife Carolanna of Star, Andrew of Arizona and Levi of Texas; his daughters, Michelle and her husband, Scott, of Washington and Anne of Nevada; sister Carol Ann Mooney of Mountain Home; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles and Thomas, and sister, Norma.
