Election to dissolve rec district postponed

Thursday, August 27, 2015

An effort aiming to dissolve the Western Elmore County Recreation District is now expected to go to a vote next May following an apparent communications breakdown between the county courthouse and a local citizens group.

At issue was a petition drive headed by the local "Stop the Madness" group, which began collecting signatures three months ago in hopes of holding an election Nov. 3.

No breakdown, the Elections Office provided a date when the petition effort started and then it was changed to 30 days earlier with no notice from the office. Those behind the petition only found out of the change via the town rumor mill and confirmed the change in dates. Rather than risk submitting the petition and not having enough valid signatures, they made the decision to wait till May while still collecting signatures. Now the Elections Office is saying that $1600 is needed for advertisement yet that fee does not apply according to Idaho code. Seems like someone in the Elections Office is abusing their position to make things as difficult as they can and might be in support of the WECRD. It is a shame that they are not staying neutral as is required and a shame the County Commissioners see nothing wrong with this.

  • Same old story, the city makes up the rules that benefit them.

  • Dissolve the WECRD Now... Can we not build a nice Rec Center working with Parks & Rec? We don't need YMCA to control our town Recreation Center.

  • If this is true than the WECRD may go on forever,

I need a job where I can spend a quarter million dollars of taxpayer money and have nothing tangible to show other than my friends will have fat wallets.

Its not the city voters only, this district covers half of Elmore County, I wonder if Eastern Elmore County REC District has the same issues and if they collect the same dollar amounts?

FYI the Elections Office is a COUNTY office not a city office. Despite prove that those in that office provided false information and obviously using their position in a political way, the county commissioners refuse to hold them accountable. Wonder why that is? And why does this need built facility need to be built by taxpayers but managed by the Y? Why not do a contract with Parks N Rec to run it? The current WECRD has admitted they have no idea what they are doing and that has been evident over the last 15 years by their actions and lack of progress.

  • The WECRD is an embarrassment. This "Rec Center" idea was started when I was in Jr High. Now I have children in school.. I KNOW there will NEVER be a Rec Center. And to call what is happening "Shady" is a major understatement.

This ABSOLUTELY needs dissolved. And there needs to be attorneys involved to get the funds that were collected from tax payers allocated to something worthy.

If I were a Commissioner, or anyone with any kind of pull or power, I would be looking into the bookkeeping of WECRD very closely. I would be hiring Attorneys and getting Subpoenas issued for ALL the paperwork involved w/ WECRD.

WECRD needs to be held accountable for the money they have taken, and the NOTHING they have done with it.

  • This situation has now completely passed "6 on your side" status and has directly hit "Dateline NBC" status. Mountain Home government is embarrassingly corrupt. It's time to expose this in a big way, or all of the hard work and success of Stop the Madness will fade away. This is no longer an simple issue of 3 questionable ladies taking advantage of the good folks in your city, this is much, much larger.
