A reluctant stowaway

Saturday, August 15, 2015

Local law enforcement work to rescue a coyote that had gotten wedged inside the front grill of Katherine Thvedt's car Monday morning. Thvedt was traveling on Old Highway 30 between Hammett and Mountain Home when the coyote ran into the road and was subsequently scooped up as the vehicle drove past. Originally, she thought she had knocked the animal off to the side of the road during the collision and, figuring it had died, continued to drive. When she arrived in Mountain Home, she checked and was stunned that the coyote was very much alive but had become trapped and unable to escape on its own. She then drove to the county courthouse where law enforcement and animal control officials freed the animal.

After freeing the coyote, officers placed the feisty critter in a cage before transporting it to an area outside of town where it was released back into the wild. "I feel sorry for the little guy," Thvedt said regarding her unexpected stowaway.
