Lula "Lu" Margene Smith, age 88 of Mountain Home, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2015, at a local care center. A viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.on Monday, Aug. 10, 2015, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, and burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

Lu was born in Hazelton, Idaho, on Aug. 4, 1927, to George Spencer and Susie Adams. She was a graduate of Twin Falls High School.

Lula enjoyed poetry, being outdoors, fishing, hiking, camping and was a youth counselor for her church group. Lu loved dancing her whole life, and during a local dance, she met the love of her life, Art.

Lula marred Arthur "Art" Smith on July 11, 1948.

Lula was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Eastern Star and PBW the Ladies Golf League. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, involved in Job's Daughters and her daughters' school activities.

Lu worked for the telephone company and helped Art run Bey Mortuary when needed. In the early 70s, she went back to work full time in the Elmore County Courthouse Assessor's Office where her final title was Deputy Assessor. After 15 years, she retired.

Art and Lu spent their golden years traveling together, from Hawaii, Florida, New Mexico, South Carolina, Bermuda to Puerto Rico. Lu loved to travel and get to spend time with her family. She loved to learn each places history and culture.

Lu was known for her kind heart and her ability to plan, organize any event that came her way. She always had a positive attitude and always said "Be Happy." She will be remembered for her sense of humor and laughter.

She is survived by her daughters Susan (Hank) Dole and Glorie (Roger) Johnson; grandsons Marcus and Jacob (Robyn) Hilliard, Nicholas (Victoria) and Brenton (Jessica) Johnson; great-grandchildren Gabriel, Elysabeth, Arthur, Lula, Mae; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur "Art" Smith, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
