Wildfire triggers emergency notices

A wildfire near Givens Hot Springs in Owyhee County last Tuesday triggered emergency notifications that reached residents in the Mountain Home community.

Cell phone notifications were reported just after 1:30 p.m. June 9 regarding the fire, which began around noon Tuesday and had grown to approximately 350 acres before it was contained.

A copy of the civil emergency message received by the Mountain Home News involved an area along Highway 78 between mileposts 9.5 to 12 an advised people in this area to prepare to evacuate.

The Bureau of Land Management worked in conjunction with Murphy-Reynolds-Wilson fire department to contain the blaze. Fire suppression resources involved in controlling the fire included eight engines, three dozers and two water tenders along with helicopters and a single-engine air tanker.

With temperatures predicted to reach record highs, the BLM encourages the public to remain aware of their surroundings when recreating on public land.
