Local anglers gather for free fishing day event

Ethan Judkins found a quiet spot at Legacy Park to drop in a line during Saturday's free fishing day event. Hosted each year by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, it's the one time of year where people can fish in ponds, lakes and streams across the state without a fishing license.

"I caught a fish!"

Ethan Judkins shouted his excitement as his grandfather helped reel in the tiny bluegill. The four-year-old seemed a bit nervous as he watched the fish jumped back and forth with the youngster keeping a safe distance until it was finally set free and released back into the pond.

The aspiring fisherman was one of dozens of amateur anglers that gathered at Legacy Park on Saturday during a yearly event aimed at introducing people of all ages to the sport.
