Despite 14 runs, Lady Tigers lose to Wood River

Friday, March 27, 2015

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers put a season-high 14 runs on the scoreboard last Tuesday, but costly errors led to an 18-14 loss to Wood River at Memmelaar Field in Mountain Home.

Wood River scored six runs in the fourth and fifth innings to pull away for the non-conference win.

CJ Bish, Breanna Tindall and Taylor Reed each had two hits for the Lady Tigers. Bish scored three run and drove in three more, Tindall had two doubles and two RBIs and Reed had a double and scored three runs.

McKenna Lewis and Emily Deforest had hits and RBIs for the Lady Tigers with Lewis scoring three runs. Paris Mederios and Ryan Floyd also had hits, and both scored twice.

McKenna Lewis suffered the loss, despite giving up just three earned runs in five innings in the circle. She struck out four and walked four. Ryan Floyd pitched the final two innings.

"The fourth and fifth innings hurt us today," said Mountain Home Lady Tigers softball coach Ron Nicolosi after the game. "In the fourth, if we make the first play of the inning, they do not get a run. In the fifth, we had trouble hitting our spots, and Wood River hit the ball well. They did it with two outs.

"It's hard to believe that we are averaging 10 runs a game and do not have a win," the coach added. "If our girls can avoid the big innings, we will be very competitive. We have made fewer mistakes as the season has progressed. However, it's the timing of our mistakes that have really hurt us. I was disappointed that we had 11 strikeouts, but even with that, we scored enough runs to win."

The Lady Tigers fall to 0-4 on the season. Their scheduled game with Filer on March 20 was reset as part of a doubleheader with Filer at home on April 6. Mountain Home returns to action Tuesday when they begin conference play at home against Caldwell at Memmelaar Field.
