Richard Albert Bassett, age 80 of Mountain Home, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at a Boise hospital. Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 30, 2015, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 790 South Haskett St., in Mountain Home.

A viewing will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m., and funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Richard was born on Sept. 8, 1934, in Boise. He was the son of George Albert and Gladys (Sutton) Bassett.

Richard married Roma Packer on June 1, 1954. They had four sons and two daughters. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957. He worked civil service at Mountain Home Air Force Base until he retired.

Richard enjoyed wood work until losing sight in one eye from an accident. He also had a love for fishing but gave all the fish away to family, friends and neighbors.

Richard is survived by his children Rick and Laura Bassett (Clarkston, Wash.); Shellie and Rick Adams (Mountain Home); Lynn and Darrell Jones (Boise); Larry and JoRea Bassett (Lewiston, Idaho); Denton and Vicki Bassett (Emmett, Idaho); Owen Bassett (Mountain Home); one brother Carl and Linda Bassett (South Jordan, Utah); one sister Mary Dejesus (Cocoa, Fla.); 32 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Roma, and his grandson, Frank Adams.
