After a long, full life, Doris Isabelle King Hooley of Indian Cove passed away at the age of 90 at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Notus, Idaho, on Jan. 12, 2015.

Doris was born in Hubbard, Ore., on Aug. 8, 1924, the fifth child of Florence Bell Burke King and Oliver Wendell King. She attended first to eighth grades at "91" school in Hubbard and later studied Bible for one year in Kansas at Hesston Academy.

When Doris visited her sister, Norma Kauffman, in Indian Cove, Idaho, she met Wesley Hooley, a local farmer. They were married on Aug. 25, 1946, at Hopewell Mennonite Church in Hubbard, Ore.

Doris and Wes made their home in Indian Cove for 68 years. During their long marriage, they had seven children.

Doris enjoyed being a mother and wife and was a creative and busy homemaker. Family members describe Doris as soft-spoken and caring. She loved her children and grandchildren.

Without fanfare, Doris was a faith-filled worker for the Lord and her church. She taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and participated in a ladies sewing circle. She prayed for her family without ceasing. On her own initiative, Doris also gave to those in need outside her family and friends. Doris sent many boxes of homemade clothing and comforters to orphanages in Guatemala and Romania and around the world.

Doris is survived by her husband, Wesley Hooley of Indian Cove, and two sisters, Eunice King of Canby, Ore., and Beulah Cowan of Sweet Home, Ore. She is also survived by seven children, 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Doris' children include Judith (Wendell) Unrau of Notus, Idaho; Maxine (Rick) Peirson of Port Townsend, Wash.; Dale (Diana) Hooley of Indian Cove, Idaho; Donna (Robert) Detrich of Harrisonburg, Va.; Gary (Lois)Hooley of Filer, Idaho; Eugene (Mary Esther) Hooley of Bend, Ore.; and Sharon Hooley of Nampa, Idaho.
