Wrestlers improve to 2-0 with win against Middleton

The Tigers improved their conference record to 2-0 last Wednesday night with a 63-19 dual match win over the Middleton Vikings in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home won 11 of the 15 matches, five by forfeit and four by pins as they overcame a 19-15 deficit, scoring the final 48 points of the match for the win.

Picking up wins by pin were Hunter McCluskey (98 pounds), Pierce Mederios (106), Tyler Heath (132), and Jacob Ryan (195). Winning by forfeits were Kanoa Doronio (113), Jacob Lucas (120), Taylor Ogaard (182), Josh Deal (220), and Jose Ortiz (285).

Tanner Sessions won by technical fall (15--0) at 152 pounds. For Sessions it was his 110th win of his high school wrestling career. Andrew Thornburg had Mountain Home's other win, a 14-4 major decision at 145 pounds.

Tyler McCall lost a tough 6-5 decision at 170 pounds, Tyler Hardin lost a 12-4 major decision at 138, and David Welle (126) and Brad Keierleber (160) lost by pins.

The Tigers went to the Buhl Invitational over the weekend, and came away with the first-place trophy for the second straight year.

The Tigers won the tourney with 208.5 points, well ahead of second place Snake River's 170.5. Weiser was third with 120, Spring Creek, Nevada had 119, and Sugar-Salem was fifth with 17.5. There were 31 teams at the tournament.

The Tigers had eight placers, including five champions. Hunter McCluskey (98 pounds), Pierce Mederios (106), Jacob Lucas (120), Tyler Heath (132) and Tanner Sessions (145) all won their weight class. Jacob Ryan and Josh Deal both took second, Ryan at 195, Deal at 220. Jose Ortiz finished fourth at 285 pounds.

The Tigers also sent their junior varsity to the Canyon Ridge JV tourney in Twin Falls, and Mountain Home also came home with the championship trophy there.

The Tigers had two champions at the JV tourney. Seth Dolan won at 106 pounds and Dillon Park won at 132. Second-place efforts went to Dallas Mayhew (113), Dallin Dearing (220) and Jonathon Kaiser (285). Tyler Hardin finished third at 138. Fourth place efforts went to Jaden Sexton-(170) and Daniel Cruz (182). Fifth-place efforts went to Zack Slack (132), Anthony Humphus (138), Andrew Thornburg (145) and Aaron Spencer (182). Jeremy Essl had a sixth-place finish at 160 pounds.

The Tigers hosted Bishop Kelly on the mats of Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium on Tuesday. They host Buhl and Twin Falls in a tri-meet Jan. 20.
