Doris was born on April 20, 1936, in Strawberry, Ky., the second child to Robert Olen and Angie Hammond. When she was five years old they moved to Ohio, where she attended school through high school, graduating in 1954.

She earned a scholarship to LIFE Bible College to prepare for ministry. She met her husband, James Loewen, there and after graduation they were married on Nov. 1, 1958, at the Chapel of the Roses in Pasadena, Calif.

They both felt called to the Ministry of Gospel and took their first church in Ouray, Colo. They moved to Emporia, Kan., in 1963 to pastor at the First Foursquare Church.

While there three children were born -- Jeffrey, Charlie and Stephanie.

They moved to Corydon, Iowa, and pastored churches in Leon and Grand River.

They moved to Quincy where they ministered as associates at Central Baptist Church.

They moved to Marissa, Ill. and pastored at the First Baptist Church.

They moved to Mountain Home in 1991 and pastored the Christian and Baptist Church until Jim's retirement.

Doris worked first as a loving mother and wife and then as an assistant teacher and preschool teacher working at Children's House in Mountain Home.

They served in 11 interim ministries.

Doris was active in music, Sunday School, teaching children and adults, as well as weekday children's ministries.

Doris is survived by her husband, James Loewen, her children, Jeff Loewen and his wife, Debbi, Charlie Loewen and his wife, Brenda, her daughter, Stephanie Loewen, and her six grandchildren, Maddie, Grace, Olivia, Audrey, Cameron and Faith, as well as her siblings, brothers Glen Hammond and his wife, Rheba, and Curtis Hammond and his wife, Bonnie, and her sister, Bernice Wyvill.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She dearly loved her husband, Jim, of 56 years, and her children, grandchildren, friends, neighbors and especially members of the congregations they were a part of.
