Wrestlers win seven of eight matches at Bonneville

The Mountain Home Tigers won seven of eight dual wrestling matches at the Bonneville Duals in Idaho Falls over the weekend, taking second place in the team point standings.

Mountain Home beat Blackfoot 58-14, Minico 62-15, Madison 69-18, Rigby 66-18, Skyline 45-37, Pocatello 52-29 and Hillcrest 84-6. The team's only loss was to Bonneville, 30-55.

Bonneville finished first in the team standings, going 8-0 in duals and scoring 580 points. Mountain Home went 7-1 and ended with 473 points. Pocatello was third with 443, Blackfoot fourth with 425 and Skyline fifth with 407 points. There were 16 teams that competed in the tourney.

Pierce Mederios and Tyler Heath both went 8-0 at the tournamnt to win championship medals, Mederios at 106 pounds and Heath at 138.

Hunter McCluskey (98 pounds), Tanner Sessions (152), Tyler McCall (170), Taylor Ogaard (182) and Jacob Ryan (195) all went 7-1.

Meanwhile, Kanoa Doronio (113), Andrew Thornburg (145) and Brad Keierleber all went 6-2. Dallin Dearing (220) and Jose Ortiz (285) went 5-3 and David Welle (126) and Dylan Park (132) both went 2-6.

"I was very proud of the team on how they performed," said Tigers wrestling coach Lynn Knudson. "Pierce Mederios and Tyler Heath both went undefeated, plus having five other guys with 7-1 records.

Tackling eight matches in two days is real tough, but the coach felt his team was up to the task.

"Our younger guys have never done that, but they performed, and the whole team learned a lot about themselves," Coach Knudson said. "I feel we will continue to get better and I look forward to the up and coming schedule in January and February."

The Mountain Home Tigers' junior varsity wrestling squad also had a good weekend, taking second at the Bearcat Invitational Junior Varsity Tournament in Twin Falls.

Three Mountain Home wrestlers came home with first-place medals. Seth Dolan won at 106 pounds, Dallas Mayhew took the 113-pound weight class and Daniel Cruz won at 182.

Aaron Spencer finished second at 182 and Hunter Thornburg (113), Jeremy Essl (160), Jayden Sexton (170) and Jonathan Kaiser (285) all finished fourth.
