Winter conditions prompt road closures

Thursday, December 11, 2014

The Elmore County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that Trinity Mountain and Rocky Bar Roads are now closed to motorized vehicles.

Barricades are in place at both roads as work begins to groom the trails around the mountain communities of Pine and Featherville due to winter conditions.

Drivers who violate the road closures and drive on groomed trails are subject to towing fees and citations from the U.S. Forest Service or Elmore County Sheriff's Office, said Chief Deputy Mike Barclay.

Meanwhile, the deputy urged drivers, especially those heading into the mountains, to factor in extra travel time and give themselves additional distance between vehicles.

Those planning on recreating in winter areas are urged to bring along emergency supplies in case they get stranded and have to spend the night in their vehicles. At a minimum, Barclay recommended that people carry extra blankets, warm clothes and a flashlight.

The deputy also recommended that those planning on traveling into the mountains to tell others where they plan to go, where they plan to stay and when they expect to return home.
