Chamber cancels Parade of Lights

Wednesday, November 19, 2014

In an e-mail sent to members Friday morning, the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce announced it has cancelled this year's Christmas Parade of Lights.

The parade normally marked the first "official" appearance of Santa Claus in Mountain Home and included roughly 20 floats and entries representing local businesses and organization.

According the Chamber executive director Renae Green, the event was cancelled after two members of the parade committee had to step down due to illnesses. With fewer people able to help, the Chamber chose instead to focus its efforts on this year's Giving Tree program.

UPDATE: A local group of citizens has gotten together and coordinated a parade with the City. Like many other citizens, they had no idea the parade was cancelled but when they heard about it, they took the bull by the horns. We were all shocked when we heard the news about the decision to cancel the parade. Many of us never saw any request for assistance. Maybe the Chamber should think about using social media more. That is how the citizens pooled their efforts together.
