Ruth (Scherrer) Myers, 78, died on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, surrounded by loved ones while in hospice care at her granddaughter's home in Motley, Minn. Ruth died peacefully in her sleep after a long illness of congestive heart failure.

She was born in Haßloch Germany on July 22, 1936.

Ruth married Carl Myers on May 10, 1958, when he was serving in the United States Air Force in Germany. They spent 43 years together before he passed away in an automobile accident.

She was very proud of the fact that she became an American citizen on Sept. 8, 1970.

Ruth shared many of her memories of growing up during the war in Germany. The favorite being the best Christmas present she ever received, which was when her father brought home a big orange for her, her sister and her brother. Until her death, she did not like thunderstorms because they reminded her to much of the bombs of her childhood.

Ruth moved to Mountain Home Air Force Base in 1965 and stayed until 1970.

When Carl retired from the military, they returned to Idaho in 1973 and spent the majority of their time in Mountain Home until Carl's passing in 2001.

After his passing, she bounced back and forth between Idaho and Minnesota so she could spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family camping and going on vacation.

Her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren kept her entertained later in her life.

One of her favorite things to do was go to the casino and it didn't matter which one.

She also enjoyed her flower gardens, watching the horses, and watching the changing colors of her solar hummingbirds and butterflies. One of her favorite things about Minnesota was being able to get her Mocha Moolattes from the local Dairy Queen.

Ruth leaves: her son, Eddy Scherrer and wife Anne and grandchildren Stephan and Andreas, great-grandchildren Julian and Neo of Germany; daughter Lorry and husband Kevin Parrish of Motley, Minn., grandchildren, Lysa, Bobby, Wayne, Sarah, and Amanda, great-grandchildren Taylor, KayeLee, Carl, Katerra, Kooper, Korden, Korianna, and Ryider; daughter Chris Myers of Mountain Home, grandchildren John, Carl, Nicole, Randy and Ryan, great-grandchildren Logan, Hayden, Parker, McKenzie, Ashton, Axell, Kynlee, Aubree; daughter Liz Taylor and companion Dale Nelson of Mountain Home, grandchildren John and Amanda, great-grandchildren Sebastian and Olivia. Ruth also remained close to her former son-in-laws Randy McGrath and Bob McNamar of Mountain Home.

Her husband, parents, a sister, and a brother precede Ruth in death.

At her request, there will be no services. Her ashes will be joined with those of her husband's in the beautiful Idaho Mountains.

A special thank you to Heartland Hospice of Brainerd, Minnesota as well as Lysa and her children, for allowing Ruth to be at home surrounded by family in her final days.
