Soccer team falls to Lions

The Mountain Home Tigers dropped their season opening boys soccer game to the Borah Lions Saturday at Eastside Park by a 5-1 score.

The 5A Lions scored first, about 20 minutes into the game, and added another goal two minutes later.

Mountain Home's lone goal was scored by Toren Lombardo about 30 minutes into the first half.

Borah scored late in the first half to go up, 3-1, at halftime.

The Lions added two more goals in the second half to make it a 5-1 final.

All things considered, Mountain Home Tiger boys soccer coach Mike Torres thought their first effort of the season had some bright spots.

"It was a pretty tough game," the coach said. "The 5A school that we just faced was a very physical team, very big, and had speed all around, but I thought that we did really well first half.

"I was really pleased with the way we moved the ball, we looked good, but we got kind of tired there second half," he added. "Their size and their speed kind of wore on my guys, but that's the first game, we'll build from here."

Jorge Salinas had 12 saves on goal as goal keeper for the Tigers.

The Tigers have three games this week. They hosted Jerome Tuesday, host Columbia on Thursday, and travel to Twin Falls on Friday.
