Tigers' 2014 football season set to begin Aug. 29

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

The Mountain Home Tigers will open their 2014 football season at home on Aug. 29 against the Canyon Ridge River Hawks.

Last Saturday was Media Day for the Tiger football squads. Tigers head football coach Aaron Rodney admits that he's excited about the new year and says they've had a good off-season and summer.

"We have a talented group of young players returning to the program this year," the coach said. "In fact, we recently participated in the Southern Idaho Conference Football Camp against regional powerhouses and had our best performance in several years.

"This year, we have put in an Oregon-style offense that takes advantage of our speed and athleticism," the coach added. "We expect to score and score a lot this year, which should prove to be an exciting brand of football for our players and for our fans that attend our games.

"We also expect to garner several conference, regional, and state individual awards as well. Coaches, parents, and most importantly, the players are eager to hit the gridiron," he said.

The Tigers opened football practice with three-a-days on Aug. 11, They will have a Black and White scrimmage this Friday at 7 p.m. at Tiger Field. Coach Rodney invites the public out for Friday night's scrimmage.

Rodney indicated that all four home games will have a specific theme.

"The Aug. 29 game will feature Mountain Home's very own Optimist football and cheer programs," Rodney said. "At half-time of the game, attendees will see Optimist players scrimmage on each end of Tiger Field and the cheer squads will perform as well.

"We are also privileged to celebrate Military Appreciation Night on Oct. 3," the coach said. Families with active-duty members, the players and their parents, will be announced and featured in pre-game activities."

Additionally, active duty military members will have free access with the presentation of an active duty military ID.

  • Once again this publication writes stories about the school programs but neglects to inform us of the entire schedule or the team rosters. We will never see the league standings, nor will we ever see team or league statistics. When will this paper realize that these simple weekly additions will not only add to the team following but will also sell more papers.

Response by Brenda Fincher, Publisher, MHNews:
Thank you for your comments. We did publish the entire sports programs schedule as provided to us on August 13th, 2014 on Page B1.

We will check again into the league standings and stats that are available to us on Monday morning deadlines. In the past they were not available within our deadline schedule. We continue to provide the information as it is made available to us and thank you for your input. We will look into your other suggestions made. We do have an outside writer that provides sports stories to us however we are not able to cover each and every event. We will look into coach submissions. Have a great week.
