School numbers up slightly from last year

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

Initial registration information shows enrollment in the Mountain Home School District is up slightly -- about 15 students total across the district -- from the same time last year.

Including Bennett Mountain High School, district enrollment is pegged at 3,860.

That means classroom crowding will continue.

I'm sorry, werborg... Money grab? Believe it or not, the school district is not as corrupt as people on this banter box seem to think. I know for a fact that there are some ELEMENTARY classrooms in this district that have 33-35 students. How can a student, or the teachers assigned to those classrooms for that matter, be successful under those circumstances? I find it challenging to handle just a few kids on my own - but 35? Plus the expectation that the students will learn everything they are required to learn to pass the new tests that are being given to the kids. Even hiring one more teacher would only reduce the student load by a few students per teacher. Would you want to be in charge of the education of 35 students, making sure they learn all the reading, writing, spelling, grammar, math, science, and social studies they need to pass the tests? I wouldn't. It would be an impossible situation.

I have done my research... I know there have been questionable decisions made at times, but the district is doing the best they can given the limited and ever-dwindling funds they get from the state right now. A "money grab" isn't an appropriate label.
