Arrowrock Dam expansion plan is a pipe dream

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Dear editor:

Earth to Elmore County Commission -- No way will Idaho citizens allow Arrowrock Reservoir to be raised 78 feet and (expanded) 300,000-acre feet. (MHN, 7-16-14)

1. The recreational value of the wild and scenic lower South Fork Canyon and lower Middle Fork Canyon has been established for over 100 years. Hunters, anglers, campers and whitewater enthusiasts will not surrender these precious canyons to rural drought suckers.

2. The water on the upper Boise River is already claimed by the Boise Board of Control and Idaho Power Company. Their water rights have already been adjudicated and Elmore County is left high and dry.

3. Does anyone remember the Teton Dam Disaster in 1976? Google it. No way will the progressive citizens of Boise allow a rickety rebuild of a taller Arrowrock Dam in basalt rock to threaten the entire Treasure Valley with catastrophic destruction.

4. The Elmore County Commissioners and their land speculator buddies have had wet dreams of water grandeur before. Remember the Guffey Dam Project? Was that before Google? Maybe they can find it in the library.
