Next 60 days critical for rec district proposal

Thursday, July 3, 2014
Subject to change, this artist's concept drawing shows the proposed phase one of the WECRD community center.

The Western Elmore County Recreation District is facing a series of critical decisions over the next 60 days that will decide if it will finally begin concrete steps leading to the first phase of its proposed community center or delay the project, yet again.

An unexpected increase in estimated costs for the project may force either another delay or a further scaling back of the proposal.

How can WECRD claim "unexpected increase in estimated costs"? It is not new that prices have gone up and simple project planning is to include a percentage for unexpected things like this. And here we go again with another delay and proposed scaling back of this money pit. Really nice.

  • An unexpected increase in costs? This whole fiasco is paralysis by analysis. It is a shame the project couldn't have been completed on a regular time table (15 years ago), costs were much less way back then. Here is another news flash... Sit on this for another 10 years and costs will be higher then as well. Does an "unexpected increase in costs" translate to an embezzlement?

  • In the 2009-2011 time frame construction was at it's very lowest cost. I would not even expect that they would realize that. We are now in the beginning of a new commercial building boom (Boise). Costs will most likely rise very very quickly. If I were them, I would close the money pit office, quit spending money on attorneys and architects, and wait for the next crash. At this rate they will be victims of the crash. If you can consider non-qualified custodians of our hard earned money victims.
