Ceremonies honor fallen heroes

Jimmy Gould, in an authentic World War I uniform, led the playing of "Taps."

The sound of "Taps" echoed hauntingly across the flag-marked gravestones as Mountain Home paused Monday to remember America's fallen veterans on Memorial Day.

More than 60 volunteers from the Air Force base stood in formation in their dress blues at Mountain View Cemetery, as members of the American Legion Riders, the Green Knights from base, and local members of the Boy Scouts provided a backdrop to the ceremonies by holding national, state and service flags, each flapping gently in the breeze.

A solid crowd of approximately 250 people gathered to hear the ceremonies and pay their respects and watch as a dozen local civic and military support groups laid wreaths to honor those veterans whose names were inscribed on gravestones.
