Council to extend public hearing on dog park proposal

Friday, May 23, 2014

The city council will extend a public hearing regarding plans to build a dog park in the city's north side in hopes of gathering additional public testimony on the project.

During a meeting last month, the four-member council introduced a proposal to designate an area near the community garden off North 3rd East Street.

If approved, the city is expected to install a fence around the area to allow dog owners to let their canines run without having to worry about them leaving the area.

  • My recommendation to one of the councilman was to build it next to the new animal shelter. I also think the idea to have a separate small dog area is a good one.

The staff of the shelter could help maintain the area and their volunteer dog walkers would not have to be in traffic.
