Helping to 'stamp out' hunger

Friday, May 16, 2014

Gina Torrey and Dave Newman sort through bags of donated food before everything is loaded into trailers during the U.S. Post Office's 22nd Annual Letter Carriers Food Drive across America on Saturday.

Local postal workers collected more than 8,600 pounds of canned goods and non-perishable food during this year's drive.

While the total was lower than last year's record-setting amount, the postal drive was also scheduled shortly after a pair of similar food drives held in recent weeks. Donations were collected as the postal workers in Mountain Home and nearby Mountain Home Air Force Base ran their normal routes earlier that day. Proceeds will benefit local area food banks.

John Ring unloads additional bags of food as volunteers continued to sort through the donated provisions.
