Lady Tigers split doubleheader before losing two

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers started last week with a doubleheader split with Caldwell, then dropped games to Skyview and Bishop Kelly.

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers came away with a split of their conference doubleheader with Caldwell last week at Memmelar Field in Mountain Home, winning the first game 10-8 but dropping the second 13-0 in five innings.

In the first game, the lead went back and forth, with seven lead changes and two ties. Tied at 7-7 heading into the last inning, Mountain Home scored three times to go up 10-7 and held off the Lady Cougars for a 10-8 win.

"We managed to battle back --that's the key," said Mountain Home Lady Tigers softball coach Ron Nicolosi. "They put us down a couple times and we came back. The girls were in it mentally, and played well, and got some key hits when we needed them, so that was really impressive."

Mountain Home had 14 hits in the first game, with Maeghan Pomerantz and Taylor Reed both getting three hits and RBIs. Teresa Fredell, McKenna Lewis and Morgan Vivier each had two hits, Fredell and Vivier both had RBIs and Vivier had a double. Kendra Castillo and Madi Karst also had hits and RBIs.

Heather Adams pitched two innings of relief to get the win, not allowing an earned run.

Caldwell scored in every inning in the second game, and while Mountain Home hit the ball hard, very few of the balls hit by the Lady Tigers were able to find holes, as the Lady Cougars won in five, 13-0.

"We lost our intensity somewhere along the way going into the second game -- I don't know what happened," said Coach Nicolosi. "We had some really good-hit balls that got caught, and that has a tendency of taking the starch out of you a little bit."

Taylor Reed, Teresa Fredell and Madi Karst had Mountain Home's only hits in the second game, Reed's was a double. Heather Adams suffered the loss.

Skyview 17, Mountain Home 10

Skyview used two six-run innings to pull away for a 17-10 conference win over the Lady Tigers at Memmelaar Field in Mountain Home.

Mountain Home used back-to-back four-run innings in the third and fourth innings to take an 8-3 lead, but the Lady Hawks took the lead with a six-run fifth to go up 9-8.

Skyview put the game away with a six-run seventh inning to increase its lead to 17-9. The Lady Tigers were able to score just one run in their last at bat to make it a 17-10 final.

"What a disappointing loss," said Coach Nicolosi after the game. "If we had played seven innings the way we did the first four, this would have been an easy victory. We fell apart in the fifth (inning), and never recovered."

Taylor Reed had four hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers. Teresa Fredell had three hits and drove in four runs. Maeghan Pomerantz and Morgan Vivier both had two hits and an RBI. Pomerantz had a double. Madi Karst, Ashten Harrigan and McKenna Lewis also had hits. Karst had an RBI and scored three runs, Harrrigan had a double and scored two runs.

Heather Adams suffered the loss.

Bishop Kelly 10,

Mountain Home 0

(6 innings)

For five innings, the Mountain Home Lady Tigers were right with Bishop Kelly, but an eight-run fourth inning was the big difference as the Lady Knights downed Mountain Home 10-0 in six innings at Memmelaar Field in Mountain Home.

Heather Adams had allowed just two hits in the first three innings, but Bishop Kelly sent 12 batters to the plate in the fourth, getting eight runs and eight hits to take a commanding 8-0 lead.

The Lady Knights took advantage a walk, hit and error to plate two runs in the sixth to end the game by the 10-run rule.

"We had four solid innings today -- just like yesterday against Skyview," said Coach Nicolosi. "We're close... and we can taste it. But when one thing happens, it just seems to put us in a tailspin, and we have to figure out how to overcome that one mistake that we might make and, when we can do that, we're going to be tough."

Mountain Home managed just three hits off Emily Baca. Heather Adams had two of them and Taylor Reed had the other one. Adams suffered the loss.

The Lady Tigers close out their regular season schedule today, April 30, at home against Kuna. The district tourney begins Monday with the first two rounds played at higher seeds.
