Pothole problem prompts response

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

A contest aimed at helping city officials identify and repair potholes across town yielded responses in an ongoing contest sponsored by the Mountain Home News.

The newspaper started the "post a pothole" competition earlier this month to help the city street crews prioritize and identify which ones needed urgent repairs as the winter season ends.

To date, city street crews have repaired all but one of the roadway obstacles identified by newspaper readers, according to city officials. The remaining pothole falls outside of city limits and requires county crews to make those repairs.

The newspaper's pothole drawing ends at close of business Thursday, March 20. Those wanting to submit a photo entry are asked to go online to www.mountainhomenews.com/forms/photo prior to the cutoff. A random drawing will happen Friday morning for a potpie lunch.

People can also make a pothole report with the city by calling 587-2108.

  • Wish the MH News would have put this much effort into investigating and reporting the true facts pertaining to the school levy that just passed.

I thought about submitting a few potholes in my area of town but why when they have been there every year. That plus when you drive by the city shops and see all the nice equipment sitting there, surely they could take a section of town and drive it for potholes. I mean according to their own records, there is only 80 miles of roads within the city limits. The route is already set for them i.e. the garbage routes. Think outside of the box it is not that hard.

  • Majority,

It's called cold patch. Sometimes with the abundance of courteous drivers, I can imagine how your options can become limited. As a whole though, roads in town are quite old and in need of some major repairs.
