Thomas Waters, 77, of Mountain Home, passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at his home following an illness.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Tom was born April 9, 1936, in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of Thomas Waters and Sarah Campbell-Ferguson Waters. He was educated in Edinburgh and attended trade school, along with college courses in England and at Boise State University.

Tom served as a firefighter in the Royal Air Force in England.

At a young age, he worked at various jobs. He was an apprentice to an electrician in London. In New Zealand, he was a manager at Rheem Heating and Cooling, where he also taught new recruits, and a shipping manager for Pi.

In 1976, he and his family came to the United States, where he worked his way up to general manager of Century Communications in Mountain Home.

Most recently he worked in sales.

Tom married Dorothy Smith in the United Kingdom in 1960, later having Alastair and Ian, whom he loved dearly.

In 1993, he married Cheryl Buszka, with whom he happily spent the rest of his life.

He became a U.S. citizen in 1997.

Tom was a world traveler, an avid golfer, and enjoyed archery, photography, electronics, music and the outdoors.

Most of all, he loved spending time with his family, friends, and especially his grandson, Aiden.

Tom was a community leader in Mountain Home for 20 years, freely giving his time. He sat on many boards, including the Chamber of Commerce, Military Affairs and Camera 8. He served as president of JSEC, Merchant's Committee and the Lion's club.

He was honored with the Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year Award in 1996.

He is survive by Cheryl, his wife of 21 years, of Mountain Home, sons Alastair and Ian, both of Boise, and his grandson, Aiden, of Boise.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah, and his son's mother, Dorothy.

He will be missed dearly.
