UPDATE - Body of missing woman found near Hammett

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

The Elmore County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that the body of Karin Geruldsen was discovered Tuesday near Hammett.

Geruldsen, a resident of Glenns Ferry, was reported missing more than two months ago.

Her body was spotted by a local man who was out searching for antlers in a remote area of Cold Springs Road near the rural community. Sheriff's deputies used her Idaho identification card to confirm her identity.

Her body was recovered by members of the Elmore County Sheriff's Office and the Elmore County Search and Rescue team.

Geruldsen was officially listed as missing in early December. Her family reported that they last had contact with her at the end of October.

She had been diagnosed as a schizophrenic patient and required to take medication. Her family suspected that she may have gone off her medicine prior to her disappearance.

Geruldsen's family notified the Elmore County Sheriff's Office the evening of Dec. 2, indicating that they were unable to contact her. They requested that deputies conduct a welfare check at her residence.

The sheriff's department established that Geruldsen last used her debit card Nov. 7 in Glenns Ferry. Since that time, no one had seen her, and there was no activity on her bank account or cell phone.

She was last seen on the west end of Glenns Ferry traveling east on the railroad tracks in early November right before sunset. She would normally use that route to walk back and forth from her home to businesses in Glenns Ferry, said Deputy Clint Andrus from the sheriff's department. She didn't own a vehicle and didn't drive.

At the time, a search team that included members of the Civil Air Patrol searched along the Snake River in the vicinity of Glenns Ferry and around Bennett Mountain in an attempt to locate Geruldsen. Deputies also followed up a number of leads phoned in by citizens.

Investigators are working with Elmore County Coroner Jerry Rost in an attempt to determine the cause of death. Tentatively, the coroner determined that she died sometime around Nov. 8.

At this time, no foul play is suspected in her death.
