Baumgartner campground temporarily closed

Friday, February 14, 2014
Baumgartner Campground is known for its hot springs.

Due to impacts from the 2013 Kelley Fire, Baumgartner Campground is not available for reservations for the 2014 camping season.

Until further notice, the campground and the hot springs pool will remain closed.

While Baumgartner Campground was spared from the effects of the Kelley Fire, areas immediately surrounding the campground, including the interpretive trail and slopes directly above some of the campsites, were burned.

Once the hazards associated with the wildfire have been mitigated, the campground will be available for camping and reservations. Currently, no specific date is set for opening the campground or hot pool.

The Kelley Group Site (site 100), located across the river from Baumgartner Campground, will remain open and is currently available for group reservations at www.recreation.gov.

Although many areas directly outside of the campground, including Kelley Flats, will be open for camping, some dispersed campsites along burned slopes will be temporarily closed until fire-weakened trees and other hazards have been removed.

In addition, some trails and roads in the area may also be closed due to damage caused by the wildfire.

Crews will be working to repair the damage and remove hazards, with the intent of opening them as soon as possible, throughout the summer.
