Lady Tigers lose at district

A frigid night of shooting once again did the Lady Tigers in as they dropped a 47-27 District III 4A girls Basketball Tournament opener to Middleton at Middleton on Saturday.

Mountain Home managed just nine first half points -- four in the first quarter and five in the second -- as they trailed the second-seeded Lady Vikings 24-9 at the half.

The Lady Tigers doubled their point output in the second half, but it was far from enough as they were dropped to the consolation round following a 47-27 loss.

Just how bad did the Lady Tigers shoot from the field? Try 15 percent, which included just 2 of 15 three-point shots. They shot 53 percent from the free throw line.

Middleton did not exactly light it up from the field either, hitting 29 percent, including five of 16 beyond the arc. They canned 16 of their 26 attempts from the foul line.

Middleton won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Lady Tigers 39-32. Sable Lohmeier led Mountain Home with 10 rebounds, Tracey Gordon had seven.

Whitney Sandberg led the Lady Tigers in scoring with nine points. Sable Lohmeier added six points, Madi Karst and Tracey Gordon both scored four, Jacci Cristobal had three and Kristan Jackson one.

The loss put the Lady Tigers in the consolation bracket against Kuna Tuesday night at Kuna. A win over Kuna would put them in the consolation semi-final today, Feb. 12, at Caldwell against the Skyview-Nampa loser, and that winner will play for third place and a berth at state on Friday night at Caldwell.
