Hermantilde Grinnell

Hermantilde Grinnell, 86, of Mountain Home, passed away Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Services were conducted at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

She was born in Munich, Germany on May 31, 1927, the eldest of two children.

She met her husband, Jack Grinnell, while he was an airman stationed in Germany. They were married and travelled the world in the Air Force for two decades.

During that time they had three children. Hermantilde became an American citizen and was a devoted mother and wife. She had many hobbies, including gardening, needlepoint, embroidery, crocheting and knitting. As a seamstress, she had no equal -- all her handiwork was flawless and beautiful. Hermantilde was truly gifted artistically and her life abounded with heirloom quality works of art.

When Jack retired in Mountain Home, their lives became invested in the outdoors and Hermantilde loved to travel and enjoy nature. Many precious memories were made camping and hunting.

Hermantilde is survived by daughter Shaleen and her husband, David Rantala, son Jack Grinnell, daughter Semone Grinnell, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, brother and mother as well as her husband of 59 years.
