Fire damages rural home

Wednesday, December 4, 2013

A King Hill home suffered heavy smoke and water damage during a fire last Saturday at the Estino residence just east of Glenns Ferry.

Crews with the King Hill Rural Fire District (KHRFD) were dispatched to the fire on Henry Jones Lane at about 8:30 a.m., said Fire Chief Bob Janousek.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but Isaias Estino, who has lived in the home for more than 30 years, told Janousek that the fire started either in a wall or the ceiling of the kitchen. The home belongs to Crane Farms.

Although the fire was contained to the attic area, leaving the living quarters virtually unscathed, extensive water damage to the ceiling will make the home uninhabitable, Janousek said.

KHRFD responded with a crew of ten, one tender and four brush trucks. A structure truck also was deployed, but only its ladders were used, Janousek said.
