The Mountain Home Tigers boys soccer team posted a win with the girls squad faltering during their season openers last week

The Tiger boys opened their 2013 boys soccer season with a 3-0 win over Caldwell Saturday afternoon at Eastside Park in Mountain Home.

After a scoreless first half, Mountain Home scored three goals in the second half for the win.

"It was a great win," said Mountain Home boys soccer coach Jay Lockett after the win. "We needed that monkey off our back. We had first game jitters. The first half was kind of breaking in with new formations and new players, and the guys came through second half, so I'm excited."

Scoring goals for Mountain Home were Abrahan Salas, Keko Sanchez and Raul Rooney.

John Rooney, Juan Sanchez and Victor Sanchez each had an assist.

Jack Richelieu had eight saves on goal as goal keeper.

The Tigers hosted Middleton Tuesday and travel to Nampa on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Mountain Home girls soccer squad opened up their 2013 season on the short end of a 5-2 contest at Caldwell Saturday.

Madison Roache scored both goals for the Lady Tigers. Corena Wright had an assist on one of them.

Mountain Home goal keeper Melissa Jessup turned away nine shots on goal.

"We made some adjustments at half-time and held them to just one score in the second half," said Mountain Home girls soccer coach Kent Ogaard.

"For the first game of the season, we really worked out some kinks, and I'm looking forward to some great efforts from the girls this season," the coach added.

The Lady Tigers were home Monday against Middleton and host Nampa in their home opener this afternoon, Aug. 28, starting at 6 p.m.
