Two Mountain Home residents were killed in an apparent murder-suicide reported on Sunday.

Elmore County Sheriff's Department detectives identified the victim in the homicide as Michelle G. Gutierrez, 42, a long-time resident of Mountain Home.

The suspect in the killing was identified as Jaye M. Houtcooper, 49, of Mountain Home.

Deputies responded to reports of a possible shooting at 3725 McCoy Lane south of Mountain Home around 8 p.m. Sunday and found both victims inside the residence. According to Chief Deputy Mike Barclay from the sheriff's department, family members reported the shootings.

An investigation by detectives indicated a relationship problem started Saturday night and Gutierrez was trying to leave the residence Sunday evening. The investigation determined that Houtcooper shot and killed Gutierrez before he turned the gun on himself.

The incident remains under investigation by the county sheriff's department.
