Paul F. Shrum, 83, of Glenns Ferry, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, at Poplar Grove Assisted Living in Glenns Ferry.

A viewing will be held at Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home, on Friday, Aug. 16, from 4-6 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Limerick Catholic Church in Glenns Ferry on Saturday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at Glenn Rest Cemetery.

Paul was born to George Freeman "Skete" and Gertrude Shrum on April 2, 1930, in the house next door to his former residence in Glenns Ferry.

After graduating from high school, Paul received a scholarship to play basketball for the University of Utah. In 1952, he was selected as an All-American player. He was an active member of Phi Delta Theta.

Paul was also an ROTC and was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1952.

He served as a pilot, flying T-33s. He was stationed in Texas, Florida, and Ramstein AFB, Germany.

After being honorably discharged as a captain he returned to Glenns Ferry where he was in business with his father and brother at Shrum Motor Company.

Paul met Joan Tanner at the University of Utah, and they were married June 10, 1952.

Four children blessed their lives together: Kris (Randy) Mall of Boise, Paul (Deb) Shrum of Mountain Home, Steve (Pam) Shrum of South Lake, Texas, Jack Shrum of Glenns Ferry, 13 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Throughout his life, Paul enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, working in his garden, and spending time in their family cabin located in Ketchum.

He remained a loyal friend to many, including his University and Air Force friends he met in life.

Paul is survived by his 4 children, 13 grandchildren, sis great-grandchildren, and his sister, Mary (Chris) Christophersen.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, brother John (Vanessa), and parents G.F. "Skete" and Gertrude Shrum.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kory Jo, Maggie at Aspen Rehab Center in Meridian, Idaho. They would also like to thank the staff at Poplar Grove in Glenns Ferry.

The family requests that donations in Paul's memory be made to the Glenns Ferry High School Athletic Fund or the Glenns Ferry Three Island Senior Center.
