Mr. and Mrs. Willis as they appeared 50 years ago...

Robert and Sue Willis of Mountain Home will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 17.

The couple met in June 1963 after they were introduced by Robert's sister.

At the time they met, Robert was living in Mountain Home while Sue had graduated from Boise High School and was attending cosmetology school. After a brief courtship, the couple were married Aug. 17, 1963, in Elko, Nev.

... and as they appear today.

Robert served with the U.S. armed forces for 29 1/2 years, including a total of 10 years on active duty with the Navy and later the Army National Guard. He also served a tour of duty during the Korean War.

Over the years, they moved across the country and lived in places like Seattle and Anchorage, Alaska, before they returned to Idaho. Living in Twin Falls for a time, they chose to move back to Mountain Home in 1995.

The Willis' have four sons: Robert Jr., Kelly, Danniel and David. They also have four grandchildren as well as two great grandchildren.

The couple expects to officially celebrate their wedding anniversary in November as they gather with their family in Las Vegas.
