Oral Karl Roberson

A cowboy off the Bruneau and Grandview desert was born to Ida and Babe Oral Roberson in 1929. He was one of six children.

Dad quit school and tended bar at an early age. He broke horses off the desert and worked for ranchers from Mountain Home to Oreana and Grandview.

Later, he served in the U.S. Army. He married Blanche, and they had two sons. Later, he married Rose Irene Erliwine, and they had six children.

In the 60s, the family moved to Halfway, Ore. He worked on the Hells Canyon Dam and then in the saw mill. He raised and butchered pigs, and shod horses.

He was a very good provider for his family. They can't ever remember not having deer steak, potatoes and gravy on the table. There always seemed to be enough for friends to eat when they dropped by to visit.

He spent the last few years making things with his hands, up until his death. He was a master braider of bridle reins, ropes, and key chains.

There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or make for someone. He would go down the road in his wheelchair giving people he came to key chains or purses with pennies in them to little kids. It made him happy to give away the things he made.

The memories we will always cherish of our dear father who now rides into the sunset with his legs, on his mule; probably riding to one of the dances at the dance hall. We will all miss you.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters Barbara, June, Fred, Ken, Helen and Ellen; his children Mike Swain, Karl Roberson, Gary Wolverton, Jeff Roberson, Linda Roberson, Bill Roberson, Tina Roberson and Tim Roberson all of the surrounding area, grandchildren Cody Wolverton Schuk, Jack Roberson, Tia Roberson, Tammy Roberson, Joshawa, Jesse, Jace, Josiah and Crystal Rose, Joe and Jake Roberson Kason Pero and Stormy Lane; four great grandchildren, and there's a start on another great grandchild; and many friends and other relatives.

There will be a celebration of life, potluck and dance held on Thursday Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at the Bruneau Legion Hall. Donations may be made to the family or flowers may be sent. Arrangements are with the Potter Funeral Chapel Emmett.
