Aircraft facelift

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

John Gross applies a coat of black paint to the underside of the F-111 fighter on display at Carl Miller Park as work continued to beautify the city's military memorial June 12.

Headed by the local Lion's Club, the all-volunteer project aimed at giving the vintage Air Force jet a needed facelift.

To get the aircraft ready for a fresh coat of paint, volunteers washed the jet June 8 with sections of the aircraft masked the following day. It took several days to fully repaint the two-seat aircraft. Similar fighters previously served with the 366th Fighter Wing at Mountain Home Air Force Base.
