Ernest K. Rogers, 84, of Glenns Ferry, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 29, at the VFW Hall in Glenns Ferry. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home.

Ernest was born May 6, 1929, in Long Beach, Calif., to Ivan and Mertle (Corley) Rogers. He attended school in Long Beach and later in Safford, Ariz., where he received his correspondence school diploma.

Earnest then joined the Navy as a Sea Bee. After he got out of the Navy, he started working as a tool and die maker. He continued that for several years until he retired nine years ago, at which time he moved to Glenns Ferry.

Ernest was a member of Fidelity Lodge #80 AF and AM, Victory Chapter #60 OES, a life member of VFW Post 3646, a member of the Three Island Senior Center and spent many content hours at the Glenns Ferry Disaster Fund Thrift Store.

He enjoyed writing poems and limericks and volunteering many hours to our community, wherever was needed.

Ernest is survived by his later-life companion and best friend, Vonda Toombs, of Glenns Ferry, son Dr. K.L. (Debra) Rodgers of Watauga, Texas, stepsons, Ed (Pat) Welsh of Bruneau and John (Cecilia) Welsh of Scottsdale, Ariz., son-in-law Willie Southern, four grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers and sisters.
