Samuel Morgan John, 95, of Tipanuk, passed away at his home, Thursday, May 16, 2013.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 25, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 790 S. Haskett St., with a viewing from 12:30-1:45 p.m. and funeral services beginning at 2 p.m. Dedication of the grave, with military honors, will be held on Tuesday, May 28, at 9 a.m., at Mountain View Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Sam was born on July 16, 1917, in Portage, Utah, the son of William and Annie John. He grew up near Portage and went to school there through the eighth grade and then to high school at Bear River High School. After having lost his sight in one eye he was only able to attend high school for one year.

Sam met and married Vina Clark in 1941. Together they had three girls. He was drafted in 1942 into the Army Air Corps. Vina and Sam separated in 1954. A few years later Sam met and married Ruby Gray and together they had seven children, the youngest being the only boy.

The family settled in Glenns Ferry and ranched for more than 25 years.

Sam is survived by: his children, Carol of Ashton, Idaho, Edith of Salmon, Idaho, Iris of Canada, Becky of Utah, Mary Anne of Tipanuk, Shirley of Idaho Falls, Kari of Wyoming, Ada of Tipanuk, and William "Rusty" of Grand View; one son in-law, Mike Misnick, of Sweet; one sister, Verna, of Utah; 31 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ruby, daughter Koe and 14 siblings.
