'Tiger Bug' fundraiser scheduled for Saturday

Thursday, May 16, 2013

The Mountain Home High School varsity football squad will push a refurbished vehicle through the city Saturday afternoon as part of the team's fundraiser.

The second annual car push will start at 2 p.m. at DeMeyer Furniture with athletes pushing the vehicle down Airbase Road, North 2nd East Street and American Legion Boulevard to the Mountain Home Auto Ranch.

The city police and fire departments will lead the way.

In 2012, the Mountain Home Charioteers car club took a Volkswagen Beetle and converted it into a Tigers football helmet. Known as the "Tiger Bug," it will go on display around Mountain Home during football season to let the community know of upcoming home games in addition to promoting other school sports.

Mountain Home Tigers Head Football Coach Aaron Rodney considers the car push event a new tradition in Mountain Home.

"What a better way to get the players, parents, coaches, fire department, police department and community working together then by doing an event that involves everyone," Rodney said in a previous interview with the Mountain Home News. "We would like to encourage everyone to come line the streets and support the team."

Members of the booster organization are approaching local businesses and individuals in hopes of collecting pledges. They hope that people will also pledge money and walk with the team during the car push.

Representatives with the football booster club hope to raise enough money through this event to allow the team to the attend the summer football camp in Twin Falls and to purchase new equipment for the team.
