Habitat restoration

Thursday, May 2, 2013

Alan Moreno and Erica Melena from Bennett Mountain High School in Mountain Home plant sage brush near King Hill as part of a class project April 24.

Students and faculty from the school joined forces with representatives from the Bureau of Land Management and Idaho Fish and Game Department to plant approximately 6,500 sagebrush seedlings in an area just outside King Hill that had burned during the Blair Trail Fire in 2011.

Prior to planting, BLM and Fish and Game representatives talked to the students about the importance of post-fire rehabilitation. In this case, their efforts are helping rejuvenate native sagebrush in an area that serves as the habitat for thousands of mule deer.
