Lady Tigers come up short

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers came up short in two conference softball games last week, losing to Skyview and Bishop Kelly.

Skyview 11, Mountain Home 8

The Lady Tigers battled Skyview tough at Skyview last Tuesday before losing to the Lady Hawks 11-8.

Skyview struck for four runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Mountain Home came back with three runs in the top of the third and added three more in the top of the fourth to take a 6-4 lead. The Mountain Home lead was short-lived, as the Lady Hawks scored five times in the bottom half of the fourth to go up 9-6. They added two more in the fifth to make it 11-6.

The Lady Tigers pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh, and had the bases full with just one out, but failed to come any closer, falling to Skyview, 11-8.

"We played six great innings of softball -- unfortunately it takes seven," said Mountain Home softball coach Ron Nicolosi after the game. "At the end there, we battled back, we just didn't come up with some key hits when we needed them, and I think Skyview escaped with one tonight."

Mountain Home pounded out 13 hits, led by Maeghan Pomerantz with three, including an RBI-triple. Taylor Reed, Morgan Vivier, Kelly Elliott and C.J. Bish all had two hits.Bish had a triple and drove in three runs. Reed had two RBIs.

Bishop Kelly 16, Mountain Home 4

Bishop Kelly pounded out 16 hits, including seven doubles on their way to a 16-4 five-inning win over the Lady Tigers Thursday at Memmelaar Field in Mountain Home.

Bishop Kelly scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added seven in the top of the second. Mountain Home got two back in the bottom of the second to make it 9-2.

Bishop Kelly led 10-3 after three and 15-4 after four. BK made it 16-4 in the fifth.

Mountain Home managed just four hits in the game. Taylor Reed and Sarah Osborn had hits and an RBI, Heather Adams had a double, Ashley Sessions also had a hit and Kelly Elliott had an RBI.

Madi Karst started the game in the pitching circle and pitched two innings. Heather Adams pitched the last three. Both gave up eight hits, but seven fielding errors by Mountain Home led to 14 unearned runs.

Mountain Home closes out its regular season schedule this week on the road. The Lady Tigers took a 3-11 conference record and 5-15 overall record to Kuna Tuesday, and go to Middleton today, May 1. The district tourney starts Monday.
