Track & field team soars at Middleton

It was a great first effort of the season for the Mountain Home Tigers track squad as the girls finished first and the boys second at Middleton on Friday.

Mountain Home won the girls competition with 93 points. Middleton was second with 78.5, Grangeville third with 65.5 and Nampa fourth with 33 points.

Mountain Home had six first-place efforts, two each by Selena Foster (pole vault and triple) and Kristen Kreutzer (shot put and discus), while Jhorie Kelly won the 100-meter high hurdles and Mattie Bennett finished first in the long jump.

Second-place efforts went to Marissa Streeter in the long jump and triple jump, Whitney Sandberg in the 100-meter dash, Leeann James in the discus, and the Mountain Home 4x200-meter relay team of Ashley Harmon, Olivia Ostberg, Jacci Cristobal and Marissa Streeter.

Third-place efforts went to Arisha Karren in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs, Mattie Bennett in the triple jump, Kristan Jackson in the 400, Willow Freer in the pole vault, Jhorie Kelly and Selena Foster in the high jump (tie) and the Mountain Home sprint medley relay team of Ashley Harmon, Yuridia Ayala, McKenzie Sandberg and Echo Maas.

Finishing in fourth place were Olivia Ostberg in the 200 meters, Leeann James in the shot put and Jhorie Kelly in the triple jump.

Finishing in fifth place were Jacci Cristobal in the 100-meter high hurdles and Shilo Clark in the 200 meters.

Grangeville won the boys competition with 81 points. Mountain Home was second with 68, Middleton third with 63.5 and Nampa fourth with 57.5 points.

Mountain Home picked up first-place finishes in the pole vault with Ryan Eckstrom, Michael Daniels in the triple jump, Chris Smith (tie) in the high jump, and the 4x100-meter relay team of Nick Garza, Malik Whitfield, Chance Llewellyn and Michael Daniels.

Second-place efforts went to Ryan Eckstrom in the 400 meters, Taylor Ogaard in the pole vault, Michael Daniels in the long jump, Malik Whitfield (tie) in the 100 meters, and the sprint medley relay team of Malik Whitfield, Chance Llewellyn, Chris Smith and Abraham Salas.

Third-place efforts went to Devin Wright in the 300-meter hurdles, Eric Reetz (tie) in the 110-meter high hurdles, and the Tiger 4x200-meter relay team of Nick Garza, Tanner Sessions, Chris Smith and Malik Whitfield.

Jett Cristobal finished fourth in the long jump and triple jump, as did Devin Wright in the 110-meter high hurdles, Eric Reetz in the 300-meter hurdles, Tanner Sessions in the pole vault and Michael Daniels and Nick Garza (tie) in the 100 meters.

Meanwhile, fifth-place efforts went to Abraham Salas in the 400 meters, Will Weygent in the 300-meter hurdles, Cody Bosguslavski in the discus, Sam Benzie in the long jump and Pete Ramadan in the triple jump.

"The kids ran hard, and you can't ask for much more than that for our first meet," said Tigers track coach Rich Urquidi.

The Tigers host Skyview in a dual meet this Friday at Tiger Field. Events will get under way at 1 p.m.
