Deadlines near for district candidate filings

They're not the glamor jobs of legislator, county commissioner or councilman, but the filing deadlines are rapidly approaching for a host of small government positions that serve vital roles in making things work.

Declarations of candidacy for offices up for election in May with the following taxing districts must be filed with the clerk or secretary of the political subdivision whose address is listed below no later than 5 p.m. on March 22. Such declarations are available at the taxing district offices or at the Office of the County Clerk.

Districts holding elections this spring include:

* The Atlanta Highway District (31 China Basin Road, Atlanta, Idaho 83716), has an open position for a four-rear term for the District 2 comniissioner.

* Glenns Ferry Highway District (202 W 4th Street/PO Box 66, Glenns Ferry, Idaho 83623), has two four-year terms open for commissioners in Districts 2 and 3.

* Mountain Home Highway District (1208 NW Mashburn, Box 756, Mountain Home, Idaho 83647), The four-year term commissioner positions in Districts 1 and 2 are up for election.

* Elmore Medical Center Hospital District (895 N 6th E/PO Box 1270, Mountain Home, Idaho 83647), has two at-large trustee positions open. Each are for six-year terms.

* Prairie Library District (71 Smith Creek Road, Prairie, Idaho 83647), has two at-large trustee positions for two-year terms, one at-large trustee position for a four-year term, and two at-large trustee positions for six-year terms available.

* The Bliss Joint School District #234 (Gooding County -- PO Box 115, Bliss, Idaho 83314), which has a tiny fraction of its district in Elmore County, has a four-year term for trustee of Zone 2 available (and in Gooding County only two four-year terms for trustees from Zones 4 and 5).

* Bruneau/Grand View Joint School District #365 (Owyhee County --PO Box 310, Grand View, Idaho 83624), has a four-year term available for the trustee representing Zone 3, which includes parts of Owyhee and Elmore counties, and four-year term for the trustees in Zones 1 and 5 in Owyhee County.

* Glenns Ferry Joint School District #192 (800 Old Highway 30, Glenns Ferry, Idaho 83623), has a position up for election for a four-year term for the trustee for Zone I (Elmore County), and a four-year term, for the trustee from Zone 5 (Elmore and Owyhee counties).

* Mountain Home School District #193 (470 N 3rd E, Mountain Home, Idaho 83647) has four-year terms available for Trustee Zones 2 and 4.

* The Prairie Elementary School District #191 (1218 W. Long Gulch/73 Smith Creek Road, Prairie, Idaho 83647) has a four-term term for the trustee from Zone 2 up for election.

* The Westside Sewer District (PO Box 717, Mountain Home, Idaho 83647) has two six-year term at-large director positions up for election.

* The Mellen Subdivision Water District (PO Box 1086, Mountain Home, Idaho 83647) has two six-year term at-large director positions up for election.

Individuals who run as write-in candidates must file a declaration of intent no later than 5 p.m. by April 5, which is 45 days prior to the May elections.
