Gwen Rost

Gwen Marie Rost, 86, of Wendell, passed away on Monday, Aug. 20, 2012, at the Gooding hospital.

A viewing will be held Thursday, Aug. 23, from 4-6 p.m. at the Wendell Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, at the Wendell Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a viewing from 9-10:45 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. and burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel.

Gwen was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Wendell, Idaho, the daughter of David and Mary Jane Powell. She was schooled in Wendell and graduated from Wendell High School with the Class of 1944.

She married Frank Rost on October 11, 1943.

She served on the Wendell City Council for six years and also as the Mayor of Wendell from 1995 to 2001.

Gwen enjoyed being in the outdoors, gardening, canning, travel, sewing, and playing games, whether it be cards or putting together puzzles in the winter time.

She loved family gatherings and taking care of her grandchildren in the summer. Family was very important to her as well as her lifelong friends.

Gwen is survived by her daughter Mary and her husband, Glenn Lee, of Fruitland, her son Robert "Bob" and his wife, LaRita Rost, of American Falls, daughter-in-law Vallejo Rost of Gooding, her son Jerry and his wife, Janette Rost, of Mountain Home, her son George and his wife, Beverly Rost ,of Gooding, her daughter Lisa and her husband, Don Bailey, of Pocatello, her brother Howard and his wife, Jeanne Powell, of Wendell, her brother Glen and his wife, Lillian Powell, of Meridian and her sister, Betty Mink of Wendell, 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, two sons, Rodney and Richard Rost, two brothers, and three sisters.
