Community remembers nation's fallen warriors

Wednesday, May 30, 2012
Representatives from local military and veterans organizations stepped forward to present wreaths as part of this year's Memorial Day observance on Monday. Hundreds of people gathered at Mountain View Cemetery that morning to pay their respects and to honor the nation's fallen warriors.

For the first time in several days, the clouds receded, and the sun shone brightly across the field of honor. Hundreds of people stood silently, many with their heads bowed in reverence.

Across the cemetery, small American flags waved in the gentle spring breeze. Each flag stood next to hundreds of grave sites, each one marking the final resting place of a military veteran.

Not a word was spoken. Only the chime of the bell broke the silence as members of the local community took time out of their day to gather at Mountain View Cemetery.

During a formal ceremony Monday morning, they paid homage to the nation's honored dead during this year's Memorial Day observance.

We don't print photos any longer. We simply have them electronically. We will try to get them all uploaded to our photo gallery on the web site this week for viewing. Thanks.
