Mountain Home found the competition tough at Friday's Bandana Invitational track and field meet at Mountain View High School.

Despite the challenge, several of Mountain Home's athletes placed during the event in Meridian.

Mountain View won the girls competition with Mountain Home finishing 12th.

The Lady Tigers had two, fourth-place efforts in the girls competition. Selena Foster came in fourth in the pole vault while Kristen Kreutzer finished fourth in the shot put.

In addition, Mountain Home's 4 X 100 meter relay of Ashley Harmon, Olivia Ostberg, McKenzie Sandberg and Shelby Henrick came in seventh as did the 4 X 200 meter relay of Ostberg, Henrick, Marissa Streeter and Tracey Gordon.

Keesha Janis-Gibson and Gordon had eighth place finishes with Janis-Gibson placing in the discus and Gordon in the long jump for the Tigers.

Rocky Mountain High School won the boys competition with Mountain Home finishing 15th.

Michael Daniels was third in the triple jump while and J.T. Cristobal had a fourth-place finish in the 100 meters and a fifth-place performance in the 200 meters.

Considering all the 5A competition they faced, Tigers head track coach Rich Urquidi thought his team did fairly well.

"It was quite competitive -- most all of the top schools of the 5A were there," he said. "There were only three or four 4A from our conference that were there that just brought limited people. Twin Falls was there (and) they're a 4A."

Urquidi said the invitation is a great meet each year since it has a "state-like atmosphere" with the stiff competition.

"It's always nice for our kids to be able to do that," the coach said. "We had some kids that really stepped up and really ran well. We had a lot of personal bests for the season this year, and we had a couple qualifying marks that we were looking for, so we were pleased."

In addition, the team trimmed down its relay times, "and that's what we're looking for this late in the season," he added.

The Tigers host a meet with Boise, Timberline and Nampa on Thursday.
