Legion hosts essay competition

The American Legion Auxiliary hosts its annual Americanism essay contest for those in grades 3 to 12. Essays must focus on the theme, "How can I show my patriotism in my community?"

The length of each essay varies by age group. The word length is 150 to 250 words for those in grades 3 and 4, 250 to 300 words for fifth and sixth graders, 350 to 400 words for students in seventh and eighth grade, 450 to 500 words for high school freshmen and sophomores and 450 to 500 words for upper classmen.
