Wrestlers beat Middleton, New Plymouth in tri-match

The Mountain Home Tigers picked up dual wrestling wins Thursday night, taking matches from Middleton and New Plymouth during a tri-match at Middleton.

Mountain Home 56, New Plymouth 12

The Tigers lost just two matches against New Plymouth as they crushed the Pilgrims, 56-12, during their first match of the night last Thursday at Middleton.

Picking up wins by pins were Tanner Sessions in the 132-pound weight class and Charlie Shoemaker in the 152. Others picking up wins were Austin Clark in the 170, Jon Ryan in the 195 and Solomon Chung-Hee in the 285. Winning by forfeit were Jaime Ibarra at 113, Jordan Pendleton at 126 and Jeff Checketts at 182.

Winning major decisions were Aerial Groene, who went 11-1 in the 106-pound class, and Ryan Goldsby who finished 14-5 at 145 pounds. Nick Cruz and Colt Lohmeier lost by pins in the 138- and 160-pound weight classes. Both Mountain Home and New Plymouth also double-forfeited in the 98-, 120- and 220 pound classes.

Mountain Home 45, Middleton 30

The Tigers made it a sweep with a 45-30 conference dual match win over the Middleton Vikings.

Tigers winning by forfeits were Aerial Groene in the 106 pound weight class, Tanner Sessions in the 132, Nick Cruz at 138, Ryan Goldsby in the 145 and Jeff Checketts at 182.

Winning by pins were Jordan Pendleton and Solomon Chung-Hee in the 126 and 285 weight classes respectively while Colt Lohmeier won a 12-10 decision at 170 pounds.

Losing by pins were Jaime Ibarra at 113, Charlie Shoemaker in the 152, Austin Clark at 160 and Jon Ryan in the 195. The Tigers forfeited the 120-pound weight class with Both Mountain Home and Middleton double-forfeiting the 98 and 220 events.

Tigers wrestling coach Lynn Knudson was pleased to come away from Middleton with the two wins.

"It was a good time for the kids, winning both matches against Middleton and New Plymouth," he said. "We had the things clicking that we needed to click and beat some kids that maybe weren't expecting to get beat, and we wrestled well."

The Tigers close out their regular season schedule at home against Emmett for Senior Night this Thursday. On Saturday, the seeding meeting begins for the district tournament, which runs from Feb. 16 to 17 at Caldwell High School.
