The Mountain Home Lady Tigers open District III 4A basketball play tonight at Skyview after they ended their regular season schedule with losses to Middleton and Emmett last week.

Middleton 58, Mountain Home 40

A slow start proved costly for the Mountain Home Lady Tigers as they lost to Middleton, 58-40, in conference girls basketball Jan. 24 in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers hit just one of nine shots in the first quarter off a basket by JaDene Palmer with five minutes left in the quarter and turned over the ball 11 times as they fell behind the unbeaten Lady Vikings, 19-2, after a quarter. Mountain Home played them to within a point, 39-38, over the next three quarters. However, they were unable to make up for that first quarter deficit.

Mountain Home Lady Tiger coach Brent Keener had expressed concerns before the game about how his girls would play after the Senior Night presentation and duly noted it during his post-game comments.

"That was something I was afraid of -- starting slow in that first quarter on a Senior Night -- and it's exactly what happened," he said. (Middleton's) a good ball club, but that first quarter definitely changed the whole game."

Keesha Janis-Gibson led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 11 points. Courtney Christiansen added seven points, Teresa Fredell had six while Marissa Streeter and JaDene Palmer both scored four, which for Palmer was a new season high. Meanwhile, Hailey Belt and Alexis Berry had three apiece while Tessa Pachner scored two for the Lady Tigers.

Mountain Home shot 39 percent from the field, hitting three of its seven three-pointers while going seven-for-13 from the foul line.

In comparison, Middleton shot 37 percent from the field, including five of 21 beyond the arc. They shot 60 percent from the free throw line.

Middleton also edged the Lady Tigers, 25-24, in the battle on the boards. Keesha Janis-Gibson and Tessa Pachner led Mountain Home with five rebounds each.

Emmett 51, Mountain Home 46

The Lady Tigers let one get away from them Thursday night at Emmett in a 51-46 loss to the Lady Huskies.

Mountain Home came out lethargic and fell behind quickly. Turnovers plagued the Lady Tigers all night long with 39 for the game. After a quarter, Emmett led 12-7.

After falling behind by 12 early in the second quarter, Mountain Home battled back within five before trailin
